Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNDP ARR Poverty Reduction the UN Volunteer will analyze HIV and AIDS trends and participate in the formulation, management and evaluation of project activities within the unit. The UNV HIV and AIDS Analyst will work in close collaboration with the UN Joint Team on HIV and AIDS, National AIDS Council and Civil Society Organisations. The UNV will also contribute towards the implementation of Regional Initiatives under the HIV, Health Development Team at country level.

Duties and Responsibilities
|
|
The UNV HIV and AIDS Analyst will be recruited to implement project strategies, manage the unit project activities, participate in project meetings with partners including the UN Joint Team on HIV and AIDS, generate work plans and reports and facilitate knowledge building and management of implementing partners. The UNV will:
Ensure implementation of project strategies focusing on achieving the following results:
- Thorough analysis and research of the HIV and AIDS situation in the country and preparation of substantive inputs into the UN Joint Programme of support on HIV and AIDS, Country Programme Document and other documents.
- Support the identification of civil society organizations, including grassroots for partnership in implementing the project activities
- Facilitate identification of appropriate groups and individuals for inclusion in nation-al roundtables, to engage in the development of country reports and to participate in public information campaigns,
- Support the establishment of a small, multisectoral, national steering committee, using existing national structures, which will oversee the assessment and ensure participation and buy-in from a wide range of stakeholders.
- Based on the findings of the rapid assessment and situational analysis, facilitate hosting of a two-day national roundtable
- Support the production of the Country reports, combining information from the na-tional assessments and the outcomes of the Roundtables. These reports will be widely disseminated in a variety of fora and on organisational websites.
- Facilitate coordination of country based programme activities related to SOGIR and Linking policy and programming on HIV and Sexual reproductive health initia-tives
Participate in effective management of the unit programme within the Poverty Unit focus-ing on quality control from formulation to implementation of activities including annual and quarterly reports, achieving the following results;
- Design and formulation of some parts of the country office programme within HIV and AIDS thematic area of responsibility, translating UNDPs priorities into local in-terventions.
- Application of conceptual models in support of knowledge generation on HIV and Human rights.
- Substantive monitoring and evaluations of the projects, identification of operational and financial problems, development of solutions and participation in country pro-gram meetings.
- Preparation of inputs for reporting, including donor reporting.
- Provide support to strengthen CSO coordination and cohesion at all levels for more efficient and effective advocacy and use of human, financial and technical resources
- Attend UN Joint team and other HIV partners’ meetings on behalf of UNDP
Provides quality advisory services to the Government and ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results;
- Identification of sources of information related to policy-driven issues. Identifica-tion and synthesis of best practices and lessons directly linked to programme country policy goals.
- Sound contributions to the knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Professional growth through active learning.
- Support the programmatic implementation of the Global fund, ensuring that Human Rights issues are properly addressed
- Participation in the finalisation of the NASIF and supporting its implementation
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by read-ing relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark IVD);
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Results/Expected Output:
- The work of the UNV HIV and AIDS Analyst will impact on the success of SOGIR project and other HIV Policy work within specific areas of cooperation. In particular;
- Design, programming and operation of activities achieved.
- Strategic partnerships created at project implementation levels.
- Project activities monitored and reporting done on time.
- A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the as-signment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

Required Skills and Experience
|
|
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or health science studies.
- Minimum of two years of professional work experience in the following areas: HIV and project implementation, research and documentation.
- Fluency in English communication will be required.
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of web based management systems will be required.
